Residency Permit: The Interview
Saturday, March 31st, 2007Dwight in order to be legally and more importantly covered by Swedish health care has been applying for a Swedish residence permit. You might recall that the latest news on that front came with notification of Dwight’s interview. Dwight called Wednesday morning to the consulate in Salt Lake to make sure he would get their at the right time for them. The number provided by the Chicago consulate for the Salt Lake one turned out to be to the consulate’s business. Dwight thought he had the wrong number and was worried that things had changed. Dwight googled the consulate’s number and spoke with him there. The connection of the two was made as Dwight made his way to the consulate.
The consulate’s name is Bjorn. He was nice and helpful. After a minute of verifying Dwight’s identity he called the interviewer in Chicago. They spoke for a minute in Swedish. Now Dwight already feels inadequate with his limited Swedish, but he does think he was able to pick out some things he otherwise wouldn’t. The consulate asked how the interviewer was, and Dwight is pretty sure he talked about the snow we had received in the night and morning. Perhaps Dwight isn’t completely without hope.
The interview was fairly quick and painless. Lots of questions about Astrid and Dwight, about their families and how they met. There seemed to be a couple spots that were drilled down on some details that would enable the second interview to detect if any of the story was fabricated.
Here’s to Astrid getting her interview quickly as it can be expected to only take a few more weeks after that for Dwight to get his residence permit.
