Fun with Dick and Jane

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Unfortunately Fun with Dick and Jane just isn’t that fun. Dwight met up with some friends to see this at the new Century 16 at Union Heights.

Jim Carey just didn’t seem to quite have his A game going, though it was a pretty good showing on his part. Téa Leoni’s character did not add to the film as much as it could have, instead she felt like a catalyst for the plot and little else.

There are more than a few moments of laughter, but overall the movie hovers between meh and entertaining.

Just Friends

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Just Friends became essential for Dwight to see cause Ryan Reynolds is in it. Dwight has liked Ryan as an actor since his days of being one of the guys of Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place. Blade Trinity had the welcome sidekick humor role aptly filled by Reynolds. It certainly didn’t hurt that Amy Smart was in here too.

The movie is funny. The plot and characters combine for some outrageously funny moments. The dynamic of Ryan’s character plays well as he attempts to hook up with his long time friend.

King Kong

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

The company Dwight essentially works for had rented a theater for King Kong to use as part of a promotion. He wasn’t going to go since his boss had made it sound more like he was going to prop open the exit door for Dwight to get him in. However when he was going over to Joe’s another friend called about two tickets he had. It turned out that it was for the same showing. Dwight was able to secure another ticket for DC from a “coworker.”

The movie was spectacular. The visuals were incredible. While there were times one could discern that a green screen had been used, it was not always readily apparent. The acting was commendable on all counts. The biggest flaw involved Dwight drinking too much coke too soon in the game for a three hour movie, which includes the trailers. The only other sticking flaw was that some of the adventures on the island were almost too much, sure it made a good showing, but it also reminded the viewer that they were watching a creation of Hollywood. The most notable event being a dinosaur that would excel where so many fail at space invaders. Since it has mastered the concept as Lrrr from the planet Omicron Persie 8 would say, “instead of shooting where I was, you should have shot where I was going to be.”

King Kong is easily in the top 10 and close to if not number 1 for the year. It probably has earned a spot in Dwight’s top 10 movies of all time.

The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

Narnia was pretty good. The lack of blood became disturbing. After all what is that teaching kids? It’s okay to kill cause no mess? The special effects were well done. The fur on Aslan was incredible. Since Dwight did not write this right away his admiration of the visuals has already been diminished by the spectacle that is King Kong.
