Franz Ferdinand

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Dwight went and checked out the Franz Ferdinand show. It was at the Great Saltair, which is being run as a venue again. Missed the first band, caught Pretty Girls Make Graves. They were pretty good, and worth giving a trial to. Though they suffered from the general volume of the sound system being too loud. Dwight enjoys his music at the show loud, but there is a point when it starts to hurt the quality of the music and this volume was such.

Franz Ferdinand puts on a pretty good show, it felt like their set just kept dragging on and then their encore was quite a few songs. Of course Dwight was running on 1 hour of sleep so that affected his perceptions. Franz Ferdinand’s stage show is more of a classical rock than Dwight is used to seeing at a show. Overall it was a fun show.

Favorite remark Joe made: “If someone says they are stepping out for a breath of fresh air, you know they are lying.” Of they are seriously twisted cause the Great Salt Lake’s smell is anything but fresh.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Dwight wanted to go see a movie last night and check out the Gateway. DC and Joe went along. Dwight saw what looked like the in progress store front for a certain computer companies retail presence, then went to the Happy Sumo for dinner. Unfortunately the patio had been closed by then, cause the weather was perfect for it. The rolls were tasty, but poorly put together.

Then it was up to the extreme storyboard theater. The movie was one of the better creep Dwight out movies he has seen in a long time. The scary doesn’t just climax but instead is spaced throughout the movie.

Theater worthy: yea
DVD worthy: naw

Corpse Bride

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Dwight is an unabashed Tim Burton and Danny Elfman fan. How could he not love this movie? He found it fascinating and well balanced, a beautiful story presented in a wonderfully artistic manner. This movie truly deserves multiple viewings to be able to fully appreciate all the nuances that exist to discover and appreciate.

Dwight was extremely fearful at first. The trailer was reusing music from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and as good as that is, it could not work to be recycled into this movie. These fears were quickly dismissed as they proved to merely be some sort of stopgap solution.

The weakest part would probably be the story, it was good, but it could have been better. It would have been nice to explore the characters a little more, it felt like the movie was rushed because the animation style takes a long time to produce final footage.

We ♥ Katamari

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Dwight ♥ lots of stuff, Huckabees, Macs and especially Katamaris. That is right my friends, the King of All Cosmos and The Prince have returned. Cousins, possibly once removed, of The Prince are joining in the fun. Dwight has encountered Ace and Macho, both have proven able rollers of the Katamari. In the 15 minutes of game play Dwight has had so far, it is proving to be a wonderfully delightful sequel. Everything Dwight loved about the first has returned.

The best thing about this game is the overarching feel and how it permeates everything. The soundtrack and effects are a joy to the ears. Dwight is optimistic that the soundtrack will be available just as it was for the first one and shall soon be gracing his iTunes music library. The graphics though simple are a feast for the eyes in it’s consistent style. Dwight feels that were a Warioware to be released with such a consistently fun visual style it would make the game twice as good. The game play is simple and yet challenging to master.

The co-op mode isn’t really that great, but battle mode is fun. Dwight found it especially so when Joe neglected to read what the King of All Cosmos said right before the beginning about the object being to pick up a certain object. Dwight soundly defeated him while focusing on this item while Joe just tried getting a bigger Katamari.

This is one of the funniest coolest games and you really owe it to yourself to buy it, get the original if you haven’t and get a PS2 to play them if you need to. Dwight can’t recommend it enough, and if you can’t ♥ the Katamari how can you ever hope to ♥ your Dwight?
